Hiring A Guide
The first thing everyone should understand is that fishing Guides and Charter Captains are human, they posses no mystical powers that will make fish bite.
What they will do for you is:
- Know the waters they fish in.
- Know the fish and how to catch them.
- Know and show you the different
techniques on how to catch them. - Know what bait(s) work best.
- Supply all the neccessary equipment.
Those are just a few good reasons to hire a guide. Interview you Captain or Guide before hiring him or her.
- Years of Experience?
- Type of Trips?
- What are the Fees?
- How Many People?
- References?
What To Expect
A good fishing Guide or Charter Captain understands this is your trip. He or she should not spend all their time fishing and ignoring you. The Guide should take time and explain the fishing techniques, bait and different species to you. A Guide or Captain will have patience to spend time with you and help you, beginner or seasoned pro.

A must for a good professional Guide or Captain is great attitude towards you and your party. They should not boss you around and pretend they are God. Guides and Captains in general want you to have a memorable time and catch fish. Sometimes though, the fish just will not bite no matter what bait you offer.
A good fishing trip is where you feel comfortable and safe, enjoy the company you are with, learn a new trick or two, and catch a few fish. A Good Guide or Captain is worth every penny you spend on him or her. They can make or break a fishing trip. If you are visiting a new area, hire a Guide. Did you know that most professional tournament fisherman hire guides to take them fishing in the area the day before the tournament they do?
Guides and Captains are great people and are excellent teachers as long as you hire the right ones. When you experience a good Guide or Captain it is a good idea to tip him or her and the crew. They work hard to insure you have a great time.
